SOUND SETUPS FOR YOU, YOUR BAND or EVENT

FireFlies Band w/caller Paul Rosenberg Contra dance at Conkling Hall, Rensselaerville, NY
|
We use premium Bose L1 Model
II Towers as our preferred sound system when
playing our own gigs. What can we say? We're spoiled by how good it sounds, and how easy it is to use.
Be it in a barn, community hall, or an echoing gymnasium, being able to hear each other over a noisy crowd is a must.
The Bose L1 system provides gives a clean crisp sound for dancers or those enjoying a concert. We hear each band member, clearly.
We hear our music exactly as the crowd hears it. |
We provide: System setups, mics/stands/cables, initial mix and tweaking during performance (or fingertip controls)
for local musicians, bands, festivals and community or private events -- at a reasonable rate. We can also run computer or
iPod music files through the system.
Speaker and monitor: The Bose towers are your monitor AND your speaker. Performers to hear themselves
from behind instead of having speakers in front and to the side of the band, where sound can be distorted and not heard clearly
by the performers. You hear yourself as you really sound.
A lot of sound in a small area. (See photo - those three towers, with small (but powerful) bass boxes
beside them, few 6"x6" personal EQ boxes, are it.) No big black speakers on wobbly stands. No massive floor speakers,
monitors, etc in your way. Quick setup and breakdown. You'll have a near 180 degree sound spread, with 24 small speakers
in each tower.
Comments we've received from a few bands after a dance:
"This setup is amazing. You made us sound great!" (No, that's how you do sound, you've just never
heard it before this.)
"We've never heard our lead singer sound so good!"
"We weren't too sure about having the sound behind us, but this system worked. We could all hear each
other while playing, and that's usually the biggest problem."
"Miking my guitar amp and running it through the system really worked. The whole band sounded great."
"You have presets for my bass (guitar, banjo, flute, clarinet, piano,...)? Cool!" (Bose towers have
presets for many instruments and brands, to give the best sound for your instrument.)
Every band is different. Every setup has it's own issues. But all benefit from hearing themselves clearly, and hearing
the same mix that the house hears.
Here are a few examples of the Bose sound system in use.
(Click on the link to see the video clip):
Doc Scanlon - First Friday Swing Dance
Albany Elks Club, Albany NY (2009). (Side to side setup.)
Ed Lowman & Friends - Saratoga contra dance, Ballston Spa NY
(Back tower setup, with caller in house speakers - some caller vocals fed into towers so band can hear him clearly.)
Patti-O & the Hip Hooligans - First Friday Swing Dance,
Albany Elks Club, Albany NY
All sound and vocals are from the towers located on stage, behind the band.
Alan Thomson & the
Little Big Band - First Friday Swing dance, Hibernian Hall, Albany NY( '07). We were able to put the towers behind
the band, since they set up on the dance floor.

Peter Davis & Friends - Friday night
Swing dance @ Tennis Club, Poughkeepsie, NY. Here, there was no room behind the band, so the towers are set on the side,
mono-mix, and toed in slightly to spread the sound to the performers.
